Draymond says the Mavs guard can score better than his former teammate.
Kyrie Irving is one of the most talented offensive players ever.
He’s super creative with the ball and he hits shots that you’d never think would go in, like the one he recently did against Nikola Jokic (you know which one I’m talking about… it’s this one).
And because of this feat, Draymond Green believes Kyrie is a better scorer than Kevin Durant.
On an episode of The Draymond Green Show, the Golden State Warriors’ big man said he believes KD can be stopped whereas Kyrie cannot because of the amount of things he can do to score.
“I said, ‘Kyrie Irving is the scorer that the world thinks of Kevin Durant.’ And what I meant by that was there are some things at times that you can do to Kevin to make it a little tougher on him. Why? Because he’s 7 feet and he handles the ball a lot. There are times where because he’s 7 feet, if you time it right, you can pressure up and like press up into Kevin and make things a little tougher… you know he’ll have to turn his back or something, just get him out of rhythm a little bit.
”Kyrie Irving, you can’t do anything to make it harder on him, like you can’t make the game tougher for Kyrie… There’s actually nothing you can do to stop Kyrie from scoring. You just do all you can to make him take a tough shot and then you gotta live with the results. But Kyrie Irving, the way he scores the basketball, the amount of things that he’s capable of doing -unbelievable.”
Draymond also shared the myriad of things Kyrie can do, such as being able to finish with either hand and switching and shooting a mid-range jumper with his left hand if he’s contested.
Final Thoughts
So, what do you think? Is Kyrie a better scorer than Durant?
I think I agree.
Kyrie does have more moves in his bag than KD and can score in a larger variety of ways, making him the more skilled scorer.
But I also have to add that it’s much easier for KD to get a bucket because of his handles and height. That doesn’t mean he’s more talented than Kyrie. Just means he has an easier time scoring.
