Steph Curry Dominated Grant Williams

Steph Curry Ethers Celtics’ Grant Williams at ESPY Awards

At the ESPY Awards, Steph Curry joked about dominating Grant Williams and the Boston Celtics in the Finals.

It’s been a few weeks since the Golen State Warriors beat the Boston Celtics for the 2022 NBA Championship.

But even though there has been a bit of time for everyone to kinda settle down and let the emotions pass, not every Celtic is over the defeat.

That Celtic -Grant Williams- was on the “The Long Shot” podcast with Duncan Robinson and Davis Reid, and he showed how bitter he still was.

He told the hosts that in the Finals, the Warriors weren’t better than Boston.

Via The Score:

“When I’ve reflected and looked back to those games, I still would say confidently – confidently – to this day, (the Warriors) weren’t the better team.”

The third-year forward added the reason why his opponents took home the Larry O’Brien NBA Championship Trophy is that they were the more disciplined team -not because they were more skilled and talented.

“I would say they were the more disciplined team. I would say that without a doubt. … I feel like, at times, when you go back and watch the film, we had commanding either leads or opportunities,” Williams said. “We went on runs, and the next thing you know we just turn it over three times because we missed three shots.

“Instead of making the right read, because we missed those shots, we started forcing things. Just stuff like that. The discipline of just making the right play over and over and over again, we didn’t play with, while (the Warriors) played the same no matter what.”

Before I go on to the next part of this article, I want to ask this: Isn’t discipline to make the right plays -plays that don’t result in turnovers- good basketball skill? Doesn’t good basketball skills equate to making good decisions on the hardwood? So, if the Warriors were more disciplined when it came to making sound decisions, doesn’t that mean that they’re better?

Anyway…

Steph Curry caught wind of Grant’s comments and, unlike his regular self, he retaliated.

Yes, Curry was petty and it was hilarious.

The Finals’ MVP opened the 2022 ESPY Awards and had some jokes for Grant Williams and the Boston Celtics:

“Yo, we just beat the Celtics. And there’s nothing more… or there’s nothing that LA loves more than beating the Celtics. So, we all in this together. Speaking of the Celtics, Grant Williams, I see you in the building. It’s great to see you again, my man. I know you like this colour, I’ll let you borrow it after I’m done. I might even let you wear a ring… we’ll see, we’ll see.”

Burned. Ethered. Destroyed.

Curry went in on Williams and Williams couldn’t do anything because he was part of the audience and I’m sure the ESPY organizers had protocols in place to prevent a “Will Smith” incident from happening again at an awards ceremony.

So, the 23-year-old will have to try to get his revenge next season when they face off against the Warriors sometime in the regular season.

Boy, am I excited to watch the battles between these two rivals!
