LMA believes Wembanyama is too skilled and needs to slow down.
In his rookie season, Victor Wembanyama showed the NBA world that he could do everything on the hardwood.
He has the fundamentals of the game down pat and whatever task Coach Popovich needed to accomplish, he could get it done.
Standing at 7-4, the San Antonio Spurs center could carry the ball up and run plays. He could score off of the dribble. He could catch and shoot threes. He could also post up the best of them.
This guy can literally do everything!
On an episode of KG Certified, Kevin Garnett said that Wemby is “doing shit I ain’t see nobody do… He’s a guard stuck in a big man’s body.”
But according to former Spur LaMarcus Aldridge, this is Wemby’s biggest flaw.
On an episode of All The Smoke, Aldridge said that because Wemby is so skilled, he has trouble in the clutch.
“Wemby’s so skilled… I would be like get a move that if it’s the fourth quarter, you could go to it. Like, my sh-t was my fade. Beginning of the game, end of the game. It helps you stop thinking so f—king much. End of the game, you’re too skilled, you’re thinking do I want to do this? Do I want to do that? He’s so skilled, he has like 18 moves in his head. He’s playing too fast right now. And I’m slow down and get two moves to go to.”
In his prime, Aldridge was one of the best-scoring big men.
He consistently averaged over 21 points a game and he did that with his mid-range fadeaway.
Additionally, since he was proficient with this move, it allowed him to continue getting buckets in his 30s, where he was a three-time All-Star who averaged just under 19 points a game on 50.6 percent shooting.
Thus, Wemby should take this advice.
I think a post-fade, one like Dirk Nowitzki’s, could do wonders for him.
Or maybe a skyhook, like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s. He’s already tall and lengthy and I don’t think anyone would get to that shot.
Or, he could go completely left field and adopt Tony Parker’s floater. With his height and ball-handling skills, this could also be unstoppable.
Wemby is talented and there are many moves he can choose from.
But what do you think would be a good go-to move for Wembanyama?
