Old man basketball moves are kinda boring to watch.
Like, who prefers to watch someone do a sky hook over a monster dunk? Not many people.
But these are the type of moves that you need to master as they will allow you to play basketball for a longer period of time.
Why? Because old man moves are efficient.
They don’t use up a lot of energy and they are easy to do.
And this is important especially since you will lose your athleticism one day and you won’t be able to blow past defenders on a regular basis.
So here are 5 of the best old man basketball moves:
1) Dirk’s Fadeaway
Dirk Nowitzki’s fadeaway is legendary.
So many top NBA players have stolen this move from him because it is so effective.
You create so much space by putting your knee up that it’s very difficult for defenders to stop it.
And if you are a tall or lengthy player, mastery of this basketball move will make you an unstoppable force on offence.
2) Steve Nash’s Runner
Steve Nash’s runner is great for smaller players.
You don’t need to be super quick or jump high to accomplish this move either.
The shot is pushed so high up that defenders will have a hard time reaching it.
Additionally, you will (the majority of the time) be doing this move off of a screen so you will be wide open anyway.
3) Tim Duncan’s Bank Shot
Tim Duncan’s bank shot is probably the least athletic basketball move on this list.
It is also probably the easiest one to accomplish, too.
All you have to do is get a good look at the basket and bank the shot in. If you want to get fancy, then you can create some space with a jab step.
But other than that, it is just a simple (but very efficient) shot.
4) Zach Randolph’s Rebounding
If you have seen Zach Randolph rebound, then you have probably noticed that he doesn’t jump very high.
But the reason why he is able to average 8.2 rebounds as a 35-year-old is that he knows how to position himself. He is also well-versed in predicting where the basketball will land.
This won’t be an easy skill to master, but once you do, you will be owning the boards.
5) Jordan and Kobe’s Fadeaway
If you’re a good mid-range shooter, this move is a must-know.
All you have to learn is how to create space in the post and practice your fadeaways.
Also, it doesn’t require a lot of energy and athleticism to pull off. You just need an understanding of how to fake movements.
Once you master it, it will for sure be a go-to move because of its ease and efficiency.
BONUS:
6) Every Old Guy’s (Gal’s) Corner 3
Old guys, for some reason, are really good at making corner 3s. They also really, really like to shoot those shots.
Vince Carter is good at it.
Paul Pierce is good at it.
Manu Ginobili is good at it.
Ray Allen is good at it (though, Allen is just good at making 3s).
So, add this move to your repertoire.
You know you want to. All the cool old man basketball players are doing it.
